My name is Julian Garrod, and I am the proud owner of Chalice Antiques. I would love to share my story with you.
From an early age, I was enveloped in history. My family lived in a charming, thatched cottage in Nedging Tye, Suffolk, England, near to the enchanting Constable Country. Even as a child, I felt a strong connection to history and all things old and beautiful. They have a way of finding a home in your heart, creating bonds that are both magical and lasting.
At the age of 11, my family moved to New Zealand—a land with its own unique charm but little history compared to England. Yet, it was only a matter of time before I found myself drawn back to the past.
On one memorable day, while walking along a local beach, I stumbled upon bottles protruding from an embankment, eroded by a recent storm.
Upon extracting one from the sand, I was thrilled to discover it was embossed with the date “1909.” This serendipitous find ignited my passion for bottle collecting—a hobby I continue to enjoy to this day.
What began with bottles soon blossomed into a fascination with antiques, unveiling a world of exciting discoveries. Each piece tells a story—who crafted it, who owned it, why it was made. The allure of history, craftsmanship, beauty, and even romance captivated me completely.
