Description
A tall pottery vase/jug in mottled grey finish by Gunnar Nylund (Signed) for Rorstrand Sweden. Gunnar Nylund’s work is very sought after. This piece is clearly marked to the base, Gunnar Nylund was born in Paris on 1st of May 1904 and died in 1997.
Nylund’s most influential period began in 1931 when he became artistic director at Rörstrand, a role he held for much of the next two decades. His arrival marked a shift toward modern Scandinavian aesthetics—simple silhouettes, restrained decoration, and sophisticated glazes. He introduced matte feldspar glazes, textured chamotte stoneware, and sculptural forms that became hallmarks of mid‑century Swedish ceramics.
During the 1930s and 1940s, Nylund’s designs aligned with the Swedish Grace movement, a Nordic interpretation of Art Deco characterized by clean geometry and bold contrasts. His flambé-glazed urns and stylized vessels from this era remain highly sought after by collectors.
