A charming antique French character jug by Sarreguemines, modelled as John Bull, the traditional personification of England. This expressive majolica jug features a cheerful face with prominent sideburns, curly hair, and a blue collar bearing the name “John Bull”. Richly coloured and full of personality, it exemplifies the humorous figural pottery that made Sarreguemines famous during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Beautifully moulded with excellent character detail, this jug serves equally well as a display piece in a collection of majolica, character ware, or European ceramics. Its distinctive modelling and historical association with the popular John Bull figure make it an appealing addition to any antique pottery collection.
